alam tara kaifa
"Have you not considered, [O Muḥammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant?"
'alaihim wa laḍ-ḍāllīn
"The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have earned [Your] anger or of those who are astray."
'alaihim gairil-magḍūb
"The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have earned [Your] anger or of those who are astray."
lakum dīnukum
"For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.""
l-lahu lakum āyātihi
"Thus does Allāh make clear to you His verses [i.e., laws] that you might use reason."
thumma yumītukum thumma
"How can you disbelieve in Allāh when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die…"
thumma mawāhum jahannamu
"[It is but] a small enjoyment; then their [final] refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place."
ur'silū 'alayhim ḥāfiẓīna
"But they had not been sent as guardians over them."
ulāika hum khayru
"Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures."
wayaghfir lakum dhunūbakum
"Say, [O Muḥammad], "If you should love Allāh, then follow me, [so] Allāh will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful…"
īlāfihim riḥ'lata
"Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer -"
fī qulūbihim zayghun
"It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the foundation of the Book - and others…"
waja'alnā nawmakum subātan
"And made your sleep [a means for] rest"
ulāika hum sharru
"Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein…"
ulāika 'alayhim ṣalawātun
"Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided."
wa-arsala 'alayhim ṭayran
"And He sent against them birds in flocks,"
ba'dihi wa-antum ẓālimūna
"And Moses had certainly brought you clear proofs. Then you took the calf [in worship] after that, while you were wrongdoers."
idh hum 'alayhā
"When they were sitting near it."
alladhī hum fīhi
"That over which they are in disagreement."
wa-idhā ra-awhum qālū
"And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost.""
faja'alahum ka'aṣfin
"And He made them like eaten straw."
inna sa'yakum lashattā
"Indeed, your efforts are diverse."
fa-andhartukum nāran
"So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing."
alā innahum humu
"Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not."
alladhīna hum yurāūna
"Those who make show [of their deeds]"
lakum ḍarran
"Say, "Do you worship besides Allāh that which holds for you no [power of] harm or benefit while it is Allāh who is the Hearing, the Knowing?""
