Among the surah-opening letters (muqaṭṭa'ah), when the letter spelled out long merges into the letter after it, it is read with a 'heavy' (mutsaqqal) 6 counts.

How to read it

Spell the letter out, stretch it 6 counts, then merge it into the next: 'alif lāāāmmīm'.

Trigger letters

Only 2 muqaṭṭa'ah letters actually merge (idgham): Lām in الٓمٓ and Sīn in طٰسٓمٓ.
