What is this rule?

A ha dhamir ( ـهُ / ـهِ ) preceded and followed by a letter carrying a short vowel (not a hamzah) is read long for 2 counts.

How to read it

Stretch the ha for 2 counts (as if a small wau/ya were there): 'māluhū…'.

A ha dhamir (pronoun) preceded by a vowel and not meeting a hamzah.

NoteIt does not apply when the ha is preceded by a sukun (e.g. عَلَيْهِ، مِنْهُ).
